It’s hard to lose a scottie. Especially when it happens
suddenly, very suddenly. Our hearts were broken when Shelby and Doug’s gentle
giant Mr. Chaplin got his wings this past week. Although he had sinus problems
as long as I can remember, his health never seemed to be an issue. He was a big
ol scottie at around 35 lbs. but he wasn’t fat. Like most rescues Mr. Chaplin
had a hard start in life, but that was quickly put to the back foot where he
kicked dirt on it and moved on. Mr. Chaplin struck the scottie lottery with
Shelby and Doug where he became the overseer of the manor so to speak. You
wouldn’t think a big scottie could move very fast but when it came to
squirrels, snacks or a threat Mr. Chaplin was quick as lightning. When it came
to a couch… not so much.
Mr. Chaplin learned critical skills from Ms. Maddie (Queen
of Cliff Mill) and was in the process of becoming King (Mr. Donovan had held
that position for years)… Of course, the Court Jester Mr. Spencer and Princess
Ms. Marley, were always by his side helping him to stay grounded. During his
stay with us while Shelby and Doug had a hospital honeymoon (long story), he
was large and in charge (with Ms. Maddie’s permission of course). Teresa just
about didn’t let him go back home, but don’t tell Shelby that… One of his best
traits was how he gave his love and support when Ms. Maddie went to be awarded
her wings.
Now, the yard is down a scottie or two and seems so lonely.
Mr. Spencer can only be so crazy and keep Shelby and Doug occupied. Ms. Marley
is spending time being beautiful with special effort to make it look easy.
We will miss Mr. Chaplin but we know he is patrolling Heaven’s
yard with Mr. Higgins, Ms. Maddie, Mr. Donovan, Mr. Pierre and Mr. George…

It's always hard to loose a member of the Scottie choir. Their special arroooo will be missed and ears will be pricked to listen for it on the wind.
